Councillors check out museum progress

Te Unua Museum of Southland is really starting to take shape!

Councillors and members of our Executive Leadership team enjoyed a site visit and tour to check out the progress at Te Unua Museum of Southland yesterday.

Physical construction on both the western experience hall and the eastern building (which will house amenities including the cafe, offices, education, and retail space, amongst others), as well as the foyer that will join the two, is rapidly progressing.

For the next few weeks the team is lifting structural steel for the eastern building. Next up on the agenda is the installation of the roof, as well as one pretty exciting milestone – the installation of the structure for the double-hulled waka, or te unua, that gives our museum its name.
